IDPA Back Up Gun Match
November 7, 2010

I would like to personally thank everyone who participated in this years IDPA program at ALGC. It was my first year directing it and a real joy to do it for all of you. We had record numbers and it is growing every year, along with the entire sport of IDPA. I look forward to next year and hope to have even more participation.

I want to shoot a BIG thanks to my wife Therese for her patience and understanding with me running all the IDPA events this past season. They’re where several occasions when things had to be put on the back burner because the match’s had to come first. Thanks so much!!!

Finally, a BIG thanks to my pride and joy, my 9-year-old son Gino. This was Gino’s first year ever competing with a firearm, and first time shooting a center fire pistol. He performed better then I could ever imagine, out shooting adults who have been shooting for over 20 plus years. He displayed perfect technique, accuracy, and most important, safe handling. I cannot put into words how it makes me feel to have him share in a sport that is so close to my heart. Great job Bud!!!

Well, what can I say about the last match of the year? How about a cluster! To many stages, not enough help, more hours of daylight needed, a big lesson learned.

Now you see why the SO’s and folks that help put these things on are so important, when they do not show up, it is a cluster. I want to really thank the people that did show up to help out: Rudy Lakosh and Doug Saris for working the kitchen. Our normal chef “Sarge” was down for the count. I wish him a speedy recovery and you better be in good shape for next year. Thanks for all your help this year and all the years in the past. We never could of done it without you. Susan Lakosh for handling all the registration and selling t-shirts. Dave Clute, my wife Therese, and son Gino for helping out on stage 7-8. Therese has never done anything of the nature before, but was drafted do to the shortage of help. There was some confusion over there and I apologize. Maybe if she would come to more matches, she can perfect scorekeeping. Phil Tolbert and Angel Green for running stage 5-6. Ed Evan’s who toughed it out with me standing and walking on stage 1-2. Ed’s got some knees that have seen better days. He seen me alone, stepped up, and spent the remainder of the day helping me. John Moson and John Carroll for running stage 3-4. I have to really thank my Co Director John Moson for introducing me to IDPA. John has done more for this sport then people realize. He has showed me so much over the years taking me under his wing. He has become a good friend and I could have never done without him. Thank you very much!!! And thank you to everyone who helped out this 2010 season with the IDPA program!!! Now rest up and get ready for next year.

I do not like little guns, but some people can still shoot them very well. Jan Hill and Jeff Jerhawt shot the entire match 0 down. Jan was shooting a Glock 26, and Jeff was shooting a S&W M&P sub compact. Rod Cabbage performed flawlessly as usual taking his division and the overall shooting a Glock 36. One shooter that really needs to be mentioned is Fred Geissman. Fred had broken his right hand in a freak accident and really wanted to shoot the last match of the year, so he did, with his left hand. He shot the entire match with his weak hand and drew from the weak side. Shooting a very impressive score and had incredibly only 3 down for the match.

Well, that’s it, another year for the books! Get some rest over the next winter months and crank out some ammo on the reloading press to get ready for next year. I wish all of you the happiest of holidays and look forward to next year!!!
